This sustained trek passes over the Digar La 5360 m (17,585 ft.) and through isolated villages, beginning in the Indus Valley and through the Nubra Valley, following part of the old silk route. The Nubra is a tributary of the Shyok River which flows parallel to the Indus. The trek ends in Samour where we will drive along the world’s highest motor able road Khardung La 5600 m (18,372 ft.) to reach in Leh where you will then head for Delhi. Although it is a sustained grade, the trek does expose you to high altitudes and dry landscapes with a mild climate.
Day 1
Arrival in Delhi
Guests will be received at the airport followed by a transfer to a hotel, where you will be staying overnight.
Day 2
Domestic flight Delhi – Leh
Altitude: 3500 m / 11,482 ft.
Transferral to a domestic airport where you will fly to Leh. Once reached in Leh, you will then be transferred to your hotel. Afternoon visit to a monastery within the town and sightsee of the Palace and Shanti Stupa of Leh. The evening you can spend freely. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3
Sightseeing around Leh
We will be visiting Phyang and the Spituk Monasteries. In the afternoon you will be visit the Stok Palace, until in the evening you will be able to spend the rest of your time at your leisure, with an overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4
Trek 1 (Short) – Leh – Sabu Phu
Travelling Distance: 22 km
Altitude: 4100 m / 13,451 ft.
We begin with a scenic drive that will take us to Sabu Village. From there, an easy trek will lead us to Sabu Phu. There you can spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding area. Overnight stay on a campsite.
Day 5
Trek 2 (Short) – Sabu Phu – Digar Phu (Base of Digar La)
Trekking Time: 4- 5 hours
Altitude: 4650 m / 15,255 ft.
The day will be spent relaxing and enjoying the beautiful landscapes by a walk around the area. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 6
Trek 3 – Digar Phu – Digar
Trekking Time: 6 hours
Altitude: 4500 m / 14,763 ft. (Over Digar La 5360 m / 17,585 ft.)
A steep and gradual ascend to the Digar La requires a lot of energy. En route you will experience the panoramic views of the Shyok and Leh Valleys. Once we cross the Digar La we will then descend to Digar.
Day 7
Trek 4 – Digar – Agyam
Trekking Time: 5 hours
Altitude: 4200 m / 13,779 ft.
It is an easy walk to Agyam in the Shyok Valley accompanied by the Shyok River.
Day 8
Trek 5 – Agyam – Hotong
Trekking Time: 41/2 hours
Altitude: 3650 m / 11,975 ft.
The trail follows the bank of the Shyok River before reaching Hotong; an easy and beautifully scenic walk.
Day 9
Trek 6 – Hotong – Rumjuk
Trekking Time: 6 hours
Altitude: 3300 m / 10,826 ft.
Continuation along the same trail as yesterday (Day 8).
Day 10
Trek 7 – Rumjuk – Khalsar
Trekking Time: 5-6 hours
Altitude: 3150 m / 10,334 ft.
The trek will end in the Shyok Valley. Along the way we will visit the Khalsar Village before joining the road to Leh. An organised jeep will pick us up and take us to the Nubra Valley, where you can explore its treasures of nature, culture and history for the following 5 days.
Day 11
Journey from Khalsar to Hunder via Diskit
Travelling Distance: 90 km
Altitude: 3048 m / 10,000 ft.
We will stop off at Diskit where you can explore the town and monastery, before continuing our journey on to Hunder; a beautiful village beside the Shyok River. You can also walk around 6 km on the sandy river bank to Hunder. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 12
Journey from Hunder - Panamik – back to Sumour
Travelling Distance: 130 km
Altitude: 3232 m / 10,603 ft.
Heading back the same way through the Shyok Valley, we will then take a diversion just before the Khalsar to head towards the Nubra Valley, with a stopover in Tirit; a centre of handicrafts, wool and jewellery. We will then proceed further until we reach in Panamik, where in the past, caravans plied the silk route. We will spend the evening visiting the 250-year old Samour Gompa. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 13
Journey from Samour to Leh
Travelling Distance: 120 km
We will depart early in the morning to drive along the world’s highest motor able road (5600 m / 18,372 ft.) until we reach in Leh by afternoon. You will then check into your hotel, spending the rest of your day at your leisure. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 14
Free day in Leh
Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 15
Flight from Leh – Delhi
You will be transferred to the domestic airport for your flight to Delhi. Once reached in Delhi you will then be transported to your hotel where you will be staying overnight. The afternoon can be spent at your own leisure.
Day 16
Flight Departure: Visit Old/New Delhi (Optional)
You will be given the opportunity to visit Old or New Delhi as you will have a full day free, before being transferred to the Indira Gandhi International Airport where you will depart to your onward destination.
